Maintaining a CRM Database

A CRM database is essentially the storing place for all of your CRM information. Whether you are storing customer names, phone numbers, addresses, E-mail addresses, cell phone numbers, instant messenger handles, or all of the above… a CRM database is going to be instrumental in helping you organize, layout, and utilize the wealth of information you have gathered.

A CRM database can be small or large, depending upon what size your business is. If you run a small base-ball card store at the local mall, you might not need a huge database. However, if you run a huge sales firm, where you sell all kinds of key electronics to every major city in the United States and Japan, you are going to need a much bigger CRM database.

Your database can either be focused on a private server, or on a Web-based server. Both have their advantages. If your information is very sensitive, you might end up maintaining your own server. If, however, it is not… and if there is not a lot of it, you might end up using a Web-based database. This would save you money, especially if you are a small enough company. Actually, if your company is very small, you might even find that a free version of CRM software will be enough for your database needs. If your business is quite large, you will most likely end up using your own servers. Depending upon how big your company is, this could cost several thousands of dollars, especially if you figure in the hardware it will require.

The size of your CRM database will basically depend on a few different factors. First is the size of your business. Second, the amount of money you are willing to invest into it. Third, how big your client base is. Fourth how many different types of information you are going to store. And finally, how big you expect your client base to grow, and how fast. All of these factors play a part in your CRM database, and once these questions are answered, you will have a much better idea about what you need.
